Digital Photography in the New Century

Before, photography was done by exposing light sensitive photographic film, then using a chemical process to develop this film and make the image permanent. But with the turn of the century, the digital age came upon us and the old way of taking photographs was abandoned for digital photography. This method of photography uses light sensitive sensors instead of film to capture the image that you want. This photograph will then be stored as a digital file which you have the option to view, edit and print using various programs.

Even though it was only during the turn of the century when digital cameras became popular, the first digital camera was built a long time ago during the year 1975. But this camera was not intended for production and it was only during 1988 that a digital camera was used and had recorded images stored in a computer. As for the first commercially available digital camera, this was made available during the year 1990.

These cameras work by having image sensors read the different intensities of light. This image is then saved in digital memory devices such as memory cards. Of course, the higher the capacity of your memory card, the more images you will be able to store. Performance of each digital camera depends on many factors. Measuring the pixels of a digital camera is just one of the factors that you should look at when it comes to producing quality images. In addition to looking at pixel count, you should also look at a camera’s processing system and how it turns raw data into a color-balanced photograph. This is critical as lower megapixel cameras can produce even better pictures than cameras with much higher megapixels. Image noise is another factor that you should keep in mind. The larger the sensors of your camera, the less the image noise. This is why digital SLR cameras can produce much better pictures compared to smaller cameras with the same pixel count.

Comparing digital photography to using film for photography, this has many advantages especially for beginners who want to learn how to take good pictures. For one, you can easily take as many pictures as you want without fear of running out of film. You can delete bad pictures at once so that you can free up space to take more pictures. As long as you have a large memory card, you can take thousands of pictures and then choose later on which ones you would like to print. Editing is also easier with the help of programs such as Photoshop. Bad images can be edited to look the way that you like and you will seem like a professional photographer. Sharing pictures is also a lot easier as images may be saved and transferred from computer to computer using the memory card or by sending it through emails over the internet.

Using a digital camera has a lot of benefits which is why it is the popular means of taking photographs today. With the many advances in technology today, taking quality pictures has never been easier.
