Learning How to Care for the Environment Through Environmental Studies

No matter where you are it is almost impossible for you not to notice the different changes that are happening in our environment. Flash floods, global warming, melting of the ice, tsunamis, hurricanes, and earthquakes are just some of the warning signs that we have to have to heed so that we will not be in the worst possible state in the future. Considering the adverse effects of environmental neglect, there is a steadily increasing number of people who are finally taking notice by planning and taking action on how to preserve the same.

A lot of these people are students of environmental studies which essentially focus on studying the relationship between humans and their environment. The course also covers preservation of the earth and its natural resources, among others. During these times when natural calamities are prevalent it is critical to be involved, albeit in small ways, to take care of our surroundings. There are numerous reasons why involvement in “green” activities and actions is important, such as the following:

  • Earth’s limited capacity – no matter how enormous the earth is, there is still a limit as regards to its capacity to absorb waste and capability to provide for the fast growing number of persons living in it; hence, if the population continuous to live in its destructive ways, the risk that the earth will reach its irreversible limit may come sooner than expected.

  • Depletion of renewable resources – although resources such as soil, water, and plants have the ability to regenerate, all of these are currently depleting because people are utilizing them beyond their renewal capacity.  Population growth, increase in consumption of natural resources, and continuous increase in waste production altogether negate the regeneration ability of such resources; thus, if the same persists it will not be surprising if natural resources will become mere memory.

The items mentioned above may not take much writing space but one can never undermine the meaning of both – death to humans. Considering the years of lack of concern and ignorance, people, consciously or unconsciously are working towards their own extinction. Hence, before it is too late, you should at least be aware and support initiatives for cleaner and greener environment even if you are not a student of environmental studies.

Nevertheless, if you decide to be serious in knowing more about how to care and manage the environment and eventually start a career doing this, it is much easier for you to do so in this day and age of modern technology. Taking a course related to this concern is a lot more convenient and possible no matter how busy you are through distance learning. This learning approach allows you to juggle another career or other responsibilities while acquiring basic skills and knowledge on caring for the environment. Correspondence learning provides flexibility that regular classroom classes could never provide as you are basically in charge of your schedule, pace, and growth. If you want to finish the course the shortest possible time, then no structured curriculum will hinder you from doing so. In a similar manner, if you want to take it slow and easy, you don’t have to suffer the embarrassment of being “behind” in class because your only competition and ally is yourself. Distance education has open doors of opportunities for those seeking for career growth and advancement and even those who are contemplating on shifting field of expertise.

Take Agriculture Courses and Be Skilled in Free-Range Poultry Farming

There are a number of Agriculture Courses but one of the more lucrative and common is a course on Poultry which provides basic skills and knowledge on how to feed, control pest, and basically manage poultry. It also offers an overview on different techniques about poultry incubation, breeding, and strategies to make poultry raising a viable business.

If you have always wanted to start a profitable business by raising farm animals then taking a poultry course instead of other Agriculture Courses would probably be your best option. However, if you are a busy person and don’t have any spare time to squeeze in lessons you don’t have to fret considering that you can take the said course through correspondence learning. By registering through this approach you will be able to continue your current occupation while learning the skill that will get you started in your own poultry farm because distance education gives you more control—control over your schedule, pace, and lessons. You can study at the comfort of your own home, even get lessons in the middle of the night or during weekends, you can even go as slow or as fast as you want, not to mention you don’t have to shed out additional budget for transportation and meals which are unavoidable if you are taking classes the traditional way. Furthermore, you can study without peer pressure but still have the liberty to interact with individuals who have the same interest as you. It is like having the best of both worlds as you are not expected to sacrifice one responsibility over the other.

Once you finished with the course and plan to start your own business you can consider free-range poultry farming which is currently increasing in popularity as a lot of people are into organic food and a healthier lifestyle. This type of farming involves having poultry that are free to roam freely instead of being cooped up in cages or restrained. Free-range chickens are expected to have access to open-air and daytime at least half of its lifetime. Although such chickens grow much slower than intensive chickens, its life span is longer.

Free-range chickens should have outdoor access, meaning it should be raised on pasture or farms where it can move around, look for its own food, and live in much cleaner and better conditions than those in cages. Such condition is also beneficial in some farms as the manure of chickens serve as fertilizer for crops. Other advantages of free-range poultry farming also include the following:

  • The chickens grow much bigger and they have more opportunity to practice their natural behavior like pecking, scratching, foraging, and walking as they get fresh air and a lot of sunshine.

  • Free-range chickens have better leg muscles, healthier heart, and better quality of life in general because they are permitted to grow at their own pace.

  • The meat and eggs produced by free-range chickens are also tastier and higher in nutritional content; hence, they have better commercial value which means more profit for your business.

  • You will be able to provide your customers with healthier meat alternative since free-range chickens do not take growth enhancing medicines or other chemicals.
Free-range poultry farming is just one alternative after completing the course, but then again, you will be in a better position to decide what is more suitable for you when you are already taking lessons. With the right attitude, patience, and determination you are most likely to achieve your dreams of better life for you and your family.

The Advantages of Getting Adult Education Courses

We spend nearly 20 years of our early life in school learning skills that will enable us to live in this competitive world. Those years we spent in High School and/or College has prepared us so that we can get a job, earn a living, and raise a family of our own. The courses that we learned back then more or less decided what field or area of expertise we will be working in. You may think that after those 20 years, adults have already learned everything that they need and would no longer want to study, but the surprising thing about this is that it is actually quite the opposite.

Adults are expected to be wise and knowledgeable and able to handle almost any type of situation. They are also expected to have a mastery of a specific skill or discipline that they have chosen and they are whole-heartedly devoted to this. However, if we look clearly at reality, most adults are stuck in a job they don’t want or didn’t choose in the first place. In most cases, it is merely a job that they chose out of convenience or simply because it pays more. They wake up every day thinking that nothing will change and this is how they will spend the remaining of their adult lives. Therefore, it is not surprising to know that there are plenty of adult education courses that cater to this specific group of people. These courses give them the opportunity to change their lives and learn something that they have always wanted to learn so that they can do something that they have always wanted to do.

That is why you can find a lot of these courses and they are readily available. You can find them online or at a local learning center that is near you. And with all the varied choices, you can easily pick something that will pique your interest. Best of all, a lot of these courses assume that you are a complete beginner with no prior experience with the subject matter. That means you can take up a course that is completely unrelated to what you are currently doing and you would be able to easily pick it up.

However, the greatest question is not where or how to get these adult education courses; the real question is why you should spend time to go back to school if you are already earning? In most cases, there really is no clear cut answer, but in most cases, a lot of adults right now are currently unhappy with what they are doing. They want something new and something that they will be happy with. Others merely want to learn more about a specific topic and expand their horizons. Some just want to take up courses merely because they are bored and have a lot of free time. Whatever the reasoning may be, it is clear that a lot of adults would greatly appreciate something like these.

Whatever reason you may have in trying out these education courses, keep in mind that these courses are there to help you gain more knowledge or learn something completely new. You can customize them to your needs so that you can get the best outcome. Also, you can choose a schedule that is quite flexible on your part: you can choose between taking up a full time course or just taking it as a part time course to fit in between your busy work schedule. Take the risk and learn something that you really want. This might be the break you are looking for to get out of that rut!

Distance Education – Overcoming Barriers to Education

Our civilization would not be as advanced as it is today were it not for the knowledge that we have obtained throughout the years.  We have studied how nature works, learned to harness that knowledge to our best advantage and applied the principles we discovered to solve our most basic problems. However, the methods we used to disseminate this body of knowledge were not sufficiently efficient and fully effective at all times as there would always be some barriers to education that prevents us from reaching the right people. But technological development allowed us to develop other systems to make education available to all.  Today, we are able to provide distance education to anyone who wants to acquire the right skill set and knowledge in order to advance their careers and succeed.

While opportunities for all levels of education are easily available and anyone can take advantage of what our educational institutions offer, there are people who cannot attend traditional schools to finish their education and earn degrees that will qualify them to apply for work in lucrative industries. Distance education can provide these people with the opportunity to learn new or advanced skills that can help enhance their present career or prepare them for a new one.  New and traditional educational institutions are opening their doors to students from all over the world as they are developing distance education courses. The usual barriers to education such as physical distance between student and teacher are easily overcome by means of technology using computers and the internet.  We can transmit educational materials –data, voice, and video – electronically in seconds; distance is no longer a barrier. Even printed materials can easily be sent by couriers, if needed. Education can occur even without face to face contact between student and teacher.  With the proper use and integration of technology, such as videoconferencing, audio conferencing, and web conferencing, even adults who missed their first chance to complete their degrees can do so and finish their college education. The instructor can select the best one to use or mix them in order to meet the students’ needs while considering their effectiveness and economy of use.  No physical disability, distance or lack of time can prevent someone who is determined to acquire any kind of knowledge through distance education.

There is no doubt that the traditional means of educating students work excellently, even as there are many inherent limitations and barriers. Being inside the classroom, students can focus more on the lessons with minimal interference from outside distractions. Teachers and students can respond and react to each other’s audiovisual cues which facilitate communication and understanding. Students can manifest their manner of reception of the subject matter and teachers can adjust their delivery method to meet the student’s expectations.  There is no such interaction possible in distance education or only in a limited fashion through videoconferencing, but there are other ways by which it can be compensated.

Distance education may not appeal to those who are deeply steeped in the traditional educational system.  They may also question its effectiveness and not accept it as readily as other system.  Indeed, distance education requires the same dedication, if not more, essential skills and student application as anyone studying in a traditional school.  You still need to be disciplined, self-motivated, self-confident and able to manage your time. No one can succeed without these qualities.  It all starts with diligent planning of lessons on the part of the instructors or educational institution, which must focus on the distant students’ needs and course requirements. Once these are identified, the appropriate technology can be selected. While basically remaining the same as in traditional classroom lessons, it is up to the instructors to adapt and present those using appropriate strategies and delivery system.

Study At Home – Preparing Yourself for a More Rewarding Career

Getting a college diploma or studying further to obtain a master’s or doctoral degree has always been the traditional route to be successful in your chosen career.  From being a welder to being a doctor, you needed to attend classroom instructions in order to finish the course where you have enrolled. These days however, many schools and learning institutions have launched their own study at home programs in response to the need of many people, especially adults who want to enhance their chances for advancement in their chosen fields. These programs were developed for those who already have careers or who want to start a new one in a different field but don’t have the time to attend regular schools. These are the people who want to pursue further studies in a more convenient and affordable way.  For them, the best solution is to go through study at home programs where they can enroll anytime in the course they choose, study at their own pace, and spend less than going to traditional schools.

Study at home courses allow you to obtain the qualification you need to get that dream career and get yourself out of the boring employment you are in today.  You can choose the course you want, where you want to study, and when you want to enroll and finish the course.  With this program, you don’t need to compete with other students but only with yourself.  This is the most practical and ideal solution for you especially if you don’t want to be bothered by strict schedules, traveling to and from school, and high tuition fees.  The best thing about study at home programs is that you can study and work at the same time. You don’t need to quit your job at all or even modify your work schedule.  You can time your studies with your free periods at home or at work. You still get the support of your very own tutor who will be there with you throughout the duration of the course, helping and guiding you through each lessons and special assignments.

Many students quit school because they find it hard to cope with the strict requirements in terms of attendance, submission of assignments, and completion of projects for the subjects or course where they are enrolled. In addition, having to go to class everyday can take its toll too, as well as the need to stay focused on the lessons while listening to a boring lecture.  With study at home course, you spare yourself of all of these predicaments and enjoy the learning experience instead.  Almost all programs allow you to send and receive study materials either by mail or courier, or through emails.  Since you are not bound by schedules, you can do your studies as fast or as slow as you’d want to go. Of course, you’d have to fulfill your responsibilities too, and this entails a lot of commitment and personal discipline.  Studying at home doesn’t free you from adhering to the most basic principles of studying and learning; it only allows you the flexibility of learning at your own pace, and when you are at your most receptive moments so you can absorb the lessons and make the most out of the program. It is assumed that you will free yourself from all kinds of distractions so you can do better as you dedicate yourself to the lessons at the appointed time that you yourself will establish. It is up to you to take the needed steps seriously. Just remind yourself that you are doing this for your own future and that after completing this study at home course, your dream of getting that promotion will come true and that your career will be more rewarding than ever.

Correspondence Course – Taking Advantage of Technology to Advance yourEducational Goals

Before the invention of the internet and proliferation of emails, people used to take a correspondence course in any given subject through what we now refer to as snail mail. The length of time it took one to finish a course was largely dependent on the speed of regular mail. But slow as it was then, people took their preferred correspondence course without complaining too much and finished the program within the prescribed time period.  This type of getting an education appealed to so many people because it was convenient and time saving for them. Those who could not find the time to attend regular classes in school because of work or other personal reasons were able to finish high school, college or a special course and went on to become successful in their chosen careers. All it took them was to receive lessons, textbooks, test papers by mail, complete their assignments and send them by mail also to their appointed instructors or teachers, who in turn corrected them and sent them back to their students.

This system of distance learning, as correspondence course is also known, continues until today, although at a much faster pace, thanks to computer technology and the internet. Anyone in the world can obtain the type of education they need as long as they have a computer that has an internet connection. They can send and receive the lessons and examinations instantaneously at the click of a button.  The speed of communication may also depend on the type of internet connection but it wouldn’t be more than a day away, unlike snail mail which used to take days if not weeks for the materials to arrive.  Now you can get entire books delivered in digital format, using your computer to read it, take notes, make comments, answer test questions, and communicate your ideas to your teacher.

There is virtually no limit to the type of knowledge that you can obtain through correspondence course.  Even well known, traditional universities have opened their doors to students around the world through their digital portal – their websites – where students in all levels can enroll in the correspondence course of their choice, receive instructions and lesson plans, and send back whatever they need to submit to their instructors.  This type of learning however is not for everyone, especially if they are more used to the traditional type of learning program in a classroom. You would need to learn how to use the computer, how to navigate the World Wide Web or the internet, and use software or computer applications such as a word processor, spreadsheet and a database program.  You will use these applications to open the lessons, read them, write your answers and for any kind of communication with the school or your instructors. Self-discipline will also play a major role since being self-directed, you have to make sure that you stick to your own study time table and submit the requirements within the allotted time.  You may need to ask for the cooperation of your other family members so they can let you have the space and the time you need to complete your correspondence course on schedule.

The trend seems to be that of a growing demand for more courses to be offered through distance learning that even some education experts are of the opinion that there will come a time when people will be attending virtual classrooms all over the world where all top professors around the globe can share their knowledge and teach students without the limits of a physical room.

A word of caution however, to those who are planning to enroll in a correspondence course – you should always verify if the program you are enrolling yourself has the proper accreditation from recognized institutions as otherwise, you could end up finishing a course that is not recognized at all and you would have just wasted your valuable time and money.

Continuing Education – A Lifelong Journey towards Personal Fulfillment

It’s easy to think that getting a diploma is the end of our quest for knowledge. The lessons we learn inside the classroom, the information that remains with us after a test, and all the reasoning and solutions we found after experimentations all contribute to the body of knowledge that we use in our everyday life. But they don’t stop after graduation. While earning a diploma can qualify us for a particular job and entitles us to the respect that goes with a position, the search for more knowledge must not cease. There is such a thing as continuing education and this will enable us to progress beyond our original career goals.  Learning can be a lifelong career in itself and should help propel our careers to the top in whatever organization we belong. If you think that you are stuck in your position long enough and you are yearning for advancement, you should be thinking of getting continuing education that will prepare you for more significant responsibilities in your company.

Continuing education is more than just learning a new skill or acquiring further knowledge about your field of expertise. It is an attitude that can help you set your mind towards self improvement and increased productivity in your present occupation or as you prepare for a new one. Through different short courses that build upon the knowledge and skill set you already have and previously acquired in a traditional school, you get to have a competitive that lets you focus more on fulfilling the requirements of your job and beyond. It allows you to compete with more confidence and gain advantage over the others in the workplace. Taking particular courses in continuing education lets you respond to the demands of your job which you couldn’t do without further training.

Learning can be fun at any age – whether you are a baby about to take your first steps or an adult at the crossroads of life; it can be a journey throughout your life, never ending, always progressing to a new level.  There are people who don’t want to stay stuck long in a job, whether they like it or not and there are those who can tolerate any kind of situation at work.  But whether you want to start a new career path or learn a new skill, you can take continuing education classes that combine your current work schedule and family life. It is possible for you to enroll in part-time, weekend, or evening schedule so you can continue to live a normal life even as you are pursuing continuing education. But for purposes of better delivery, continuing education today usually use the distance learning method, which depends mostly on computer technology for content delivery.  The internet now has become more and more a part of our educational system, and thus you can enroll in online courses where you don’t have to go to classrooms. Lessons are imparted as digital contents and are self-paced so you can enroll at your own convenient time. Many traditional universities now have online versions of their courses, making it more affordable and accessible to the most number of people.

Online courses can oftentimes offer a richer and more dynamic learning process where you can have more time to focus, reflect and research the answers to the assignments and unit questions. Being available online, you can log on to the website dedicated to the course you are enrolled in at anytime, whether you are at your own home or at your office. Just like in traditional classroom courses, you will also have to take quizzes and tests to check your understanding of the lessons. You can get the results immediately and know your mistakes so you can take corrective actions.
